we can surely implement that, and the command line would be long in the boot configure file if you specify all paths for the snapshot files.

Snapshot is not the current focus for 1st release.

Thanks for the very quick response...
I will eagerly await the release and hope it will be implemented soon.
(That would be a nice way to boot XP of a USB stick without a lot of writing to the stick).

That's a nice use case.

We also have all the code to host a snapshot purely in memory, so can boot off a vhd from readonly device, or used in case you don't want to cause any system changes.

Another question for Windows 7 VBoot, will it support Hibernating ? (Built-in support for Windows 7 VHD Boot doesn't support this )

Hibernation is a tough one, but we will explore the possibility. Our first release won't support that.

a few reasons:

(1) one thing I don't like Microsoft's Win7 implementation that VHD must expand to its maximum capacity before booting. So if you have a VHD with 250G capacity, you must have that much of free space in your real harddisk. Our impl removes this.

Nice

(2) as you said, we support all Windows 7 editions

Thanks for explanation, might in fact come handy

(3) most importantly, we want a complete and clean solution, with only one boot loader, the windows boot loader can be put inside the VHD file. Win7 VHD boot must put the bootloader outside of the vhd. Ours impl doesn't know about windows boot loaders, we don't care, since they are part of the VHDs.

Nice again, need to see it actually working

(4) this might be the real reason: we want to boot Windows from other file systems, instead of NTFS. For example, you can put a Windows 7 VHD on Linux ext2 file system, or MacOS, then boot. This is not yet ready, but will be done.

As fancy as it sound, I do not see it the real reason, if one has Linux/Hckintosh & wants to use Win from VHD then they would most likely have NTFS (at least for any data storage)
