OK, I will test my USB-to-serial converter, and post results here.

can you verify, for your usb-com converter, did you attach the usb end to your Windows 7 host that runs VMLite? or the COM port end?

Goodmorning,
Thanks for your reply.
My pc has no serial ports. Only usb-ports. The program I want to run needs input from a GPS-receiver, which data is in a serial flow (NMEA). The serial to USB adapter converts this data stream to USB.
In Windows7 I installed a prolific Serial-USB driver and as a result a comport, COM3 in this case, shows up in the Windows7 device manager.

The problem is that this virtual comport doesn't come up in the XP device manager and also doesn't come up in the Add Hardware Wizard in VMlite XPmode.

Len.

That's why, you will need a real com port on your host. And when you configure COM port on VMLite Workstation, you need to choose Physical Device, instead of Host Pipe. I don't think any VM would support that.

When USB device is supported, you can use a USB-to-com converter, but you still need a pc with a real COM port, so you connect your windows 7 host using the USB end, and then connect the COM end to the real COM port.

In other words, you need a real COM device.

Allright,

As I understand now there will be no way to use may program in today's release of VMlite, because it's depending on virtual COMports and VMLite can only provide acces to physical COM-devices.

Just to make sure, are you saying VMLite will not support virtual COMports in the near future ?

Even so, thanks a lot for your time and effort.
I really appreciate it.

Cheers,
Len.
