Somehow, MyOldPCs didn't set IO APIC correctly, from your xml file:
<IOAPIC enabled="0" />

The reason I ask you to try 2 vcpus, I though MyOldPCs failed to convert the kernel images. MyOldPCs tries to convert dual cpus to single cpu for the vm, so it can boot.

Indeed, MyOldPCs worked fine, and made the virtual disk to be bootable. However, it didn't set IO APIC correctly.

Can you check the internal name of c:\windows\system32\hal.dll in your xp vm?

you can right click the dll, Versions, Internal Name
